PBS Documentary Screening: The Librarians

United States

Come to the downtown Klamath County Library for a special event on Saturday, January 31st at 3pm: a screening of the PBS documentary The Librarians!

This isn't a fluffy, feel-good ode to how great libraries are. It's a chronicle of the intensifying wave of book bans across America, particularly in Texas and Florida. Librarians are being criminalized, harassed, and even fired for doing their jobs: connecting the public with books.

"It became clear the story was much larger than a single list targeting books because of race, sexual orientation, or gender identity," said director/producer Kim A. Snyder. "I wanted to document how organizations like Moms for Liberty—born out of COVID-era anxieties—developed coordinated campaigns, influencing school board politics and playing on people’s fears." The film, Snyder says, documents the rise of Christian nationalism in American politics and the continuing erosion of public education.

"What I hope viewers take from The Librarians is this: these aren’t isolated incidents," Snyder said. "They’re part of a larger struggle over truth, access, and who gets to shape the future."

Southern Oregon PBS CEO Phil Meyer will personally present the film, and lead a discussion afterwards.

The Librarians is unrated and runs for 1 hour, 32 minutes.

No registration required. We look forward to seeing you there!
