Donations of Books and Media

The library accepts donations of books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks. Please limit your donation to no more than 2 boxes per day. We do not accept encyclopedia sets, most textbooks, VHS tapes, or water-damaged or moldy materials.

Please be aware that not all donated materials will be added to the library collection. Donations become the property of the library to be used as needed and are subject to the same selection criteria as purchased materials. Those that are not added to the collection may be offered to the Friends of the Library to sell at The Bookie Joint or a local branch book sale. Proceeds from these sales help to fund library services.

If you are donating a box or two of materials, you are welcome to drop them off at the checkout desk of the main library or your local branch at any time during open hours. If you are donating a larger quantity at the main library, please call our Circulation supervisor at 541-882-8894 x15 to make arrangements to drop them off. At your request, we will supply a donation receipt for tax purposes. The library cannot give you an exact evaluation of your gift. You are responsible for the records you supply to the IRS.

Donations to the Library of Things

For donation for the Library of Things collection, we ask that patrons speak to the collection selector before bringing in their donation to confirm it is something we will be able to take. Most items in good condition and working order are accepted, and receipts for tax purposes can be given. Donations are considered outright and unrestricted, and there is no guarantee that a donated item will end up in the collection.

Donations of Other Items

Occasionally, the library or one of its departments will request donations of other materials (for example, items to recycle as Youth Services crafts). Please check with the Reference Department or Youth Services Department for details on any current donation needs.
