Get help e-filing your taxes at the library! Folks from the Oregon Department of Revenue will help folks file their state and federal taxes online on Wednesday, February 12th at the downtown Klamath County Library.
While tax preparers will be at the library all day (10 am to 8 pm), sessions are by appointment only and must be pre-registered for a the downtown library’s Information Desk.
Before you register, you’ll need an IRS online account, which requires ID.me identity verification. This requires submitting a photo ID and either a selfie or a live video chat with an ID.me registration agent. Since the library’s computers do not have cameras built in, you’ll need to do this part beforehand. Head to www.irs.gov/your-account to get started making an IRS online account.
You will also need to make an Oregon Revenue Online account beforehand to file state taxes. Head to revenueonline.dor.oregon.gov/tap to get started.
Once you’ve got your IRS online and Oregon Revenue Online accounts, head to the library’s Information Desk to claim a time slot.
Make sure to bring the following with you to your appointment:
- Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for everyone in your household, including dependents
- Photo ID for the person filing (including one for their spouse, if filing jointly)
- Tax documents (including but not limited to: W2 for wages from a job or a 1099 form from other kinds of income such as Social Security benefits, unemployment compensation, income from interest, etc.)
- Optional: Canceled check or bank routing/account numbers for direct deposit; last year’s tax return
Most taxpayers can directly file their taxes electronically, but some types of income can’t be filed this way. If you’re unsure whether you can use this service, head to directfile.irs.gov to check your eligibility.
