Examine the complex history, trauma, and reconciliation surrounding the residential boarding school system for Indigenous youth at a presentation on Sunday, November 20th at 2 pm at the downtown Klamath County Library.
In “Truth, Reckoning and Healing: a Story of Indian Boarding Schools,” Klamath Tribes member Gabriann “Abby” Hall will blend history and storytelling to describe the centuries-long history of residential schools for Indigenous youth in the United States and Canada, how these institutions came to be in the late 1800s, the harm they caused generations of Indigenous people, and how they changed and transitioned to their form in the present day.
Hall was born and raised in the Fort Klamath Valley and attended school in Chiloquin. A Masters degree graduate from Oregon State University, she currently teaches Ethnic Studies and Native Studies at Central Oregon Community College.
