South - Northside Garden Club Presentation: Bonsai

United States

Learn all about bonsai, the gardening art of growing and shaping miniature trees in pots! Join us at the South Suburban Branch Library, 3625 Summers Lane, on Tuesday, March 25th at 11am for an introduction to this beautiful hobby.

Longtime bonsai enthusiast Sam Crowell will walk you through the origins of bonsai, and some of the lessons he’s learned over the decades of caring for miniature containerized trees. (The Klamath Basin’s unique climate brings some challenges that you have to modify traditional techniques to account for. In fact, Crowell says he dedicated the first 10 years of his practice to maintaining healthy trees in containers without worrying about fancy shaping – if you can’t keep a tree alive, it’ll never become a bonsai.) It’s a long-term hobby, but worth the investment.

Join us next month for another botanical topic! On the last Tuesday of each month at 10am, the Northside Garden Club features a talk with tips to help your garden and landscaping thrive. You don’t have to be a member to attend.
