The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program is a federally-funded effort to establish a nationwide network of charging stations for electric vehicles over the next five years. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) wants your input on the state’s participation in NEVI, and you can learn more about the program and give your thoughts during a public meeting at the downtown Klamath County Library on Tuesday, February 28th from 3 pm to 5 pm.

Oregon’s proposed electric vehicle infrastructure plan aims to place high-powered charging stations along major corridors, in order to make long road trips with an electric vehicle as easy, speedy, and uncomplicated as fueling up at a gas station. It will use NEVI funding to first implement the north-south corridors of I-5/I-205 and US-97, then the major east-west thoroughfares of I-84, US-20, US-26, as well as US-101 along the coast. ODOT expects to use $65 million in total funding over the next five years to develop and upgrade charging stations along Oregon’s major roadways, doubling the state’s total charging stations. The department isn’t stopping there – according to their infrastructure plan linked above, Oregon will expand its charging stations to a more than 40-fold increase of its current offerings by 2035.
