The Klamath Basin Genealogical Society (KBGS) is hosting their annual all-day genealogy seminar at the downtown Klamath County Library on Saturday, September 21st! Doors open at 9 am; the first workshop starts at 9:30 am. (The library will open to the general public at 10 am as usual.)
The Society’s guest speaker this year is genealogist Jeanne Hoadley, a member of the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society (RVGS) and volunteer librarian. She heads the Colonial America research group for RVGS, and has decades of family tree research under her belt – including lots of old-school genealogy work like poring through church registries, finding grave markers and sifting through relatives’ attics, without the help of computers or DNA testing.
Workshop topics include: an introduction to DNA testing in genealogy; more advanced techniques to examine your DNA test results on Ancestry.com; researching Colonial America; and a guide to major events in early New England history, including major migration patterns.
Space is limited, so registration is required. Paper registration forms are available at the Information and Reference desk at the downtown Klamath County Library, and you can register online at klamath-basin-genealogical-society.square.site/september-seminar. (You can also request a form via email by sending a note to kbgskf@gmail.com.)
Registration fees for the day are $30 for Society members and $40 for non-members. (You can also bundle a new Society membership with your event registration for $55 as an individual or $95 as a couple.) Seminar organizers will email participants handouts and other materials before the event, so it’s important to include your email address when you register.
The Klamath Basin Genealogical Society meets twice monthly at the downtown library. The Society’s DNA-research-focused special interest group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm; the full Society meets the second Thursday at 6 pm. (The KBGS’s usual meetings are taking September off, though, to focus on the annual seminar. They’ll return to their usual schedule in October.)
