The Klamath Basin Genealogical Society’s annual all-day genealogy seminar at the downtown Klamath County Library is back! Join us Saturday, September 16th. Doors open at 9 am; the first workshop starts at 9:30 am.
The Society’s guest speaker this year is professional genealogist Melinda Kashuba. Her genealogical specialties include 19th Century California and deciphering maps and land records. She has written a book, Walking with Your Ancestors: A Genealogist’s Guide to Using Maps and Geography. Kashuba is a member of the National Genealogical Society, Association of Professional Genealogists, Shasta Historical Society, and Shasta County Genealogical Society. She served as a Registrar for two local chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Workshop topics include using maps in your genealogical research, major trails of migration used by early settlers moving westward across North America, and how to deal with destroyed or lost public records. Seminar organizers have also planned a break for lunch around noon.
Space is limited, so registration is required. Paper registration forms are available at the Information and Reference desk at the downtown Klamath County Library, and you can register online at klamath-basin-genealogical-society.square.site/september-seminar.
Registration fees for the day are $30 for Society members and $40 for non-members. (You can also bundle a new Society membership with your event registration for $55 as an individual or $95 as a couple.) Seminar organizers will email participants handouts and other materials before the event, so it’s important to include your email address when you register.
The Klamath Basin Genealogical Society meets twice monthly at the downtown library. The Society’s DNA-research-focused special interest group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 1 pm; the full Society meets the second Thursday at 6 pm. (While the DNA Interest Group will meet on Thursday, Wednesday, September 6th, there is no general Society meeting this month in order to focus on the all-day seminar.)
