The foreign policy discussion group Great Decisions is back at the Klamath County Library! We will begin meeting on Thursday, January 25th at 1 pm. The group will meet for eight weeks on Thursdays from 1 pm to approximately 3 pm.

Topics for this year’s cycle include: political realignment in the Middle East; fighting climate change with technological innovations; scientific advancements, especially AI, and its impacts on national security; trade rivalries between the U.S. and China; NATO’s role and possible future since the Russian invasion of Ukraine; relations between the U.S. and Indonesia; the recently-negotiated High Seas Treaty; and a look back at the international impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and lessons to apply to future global health crises.

The Great Decisions format asks participants to read the weekly articles from the Great Decisions book and then discuss the topic at the library. Group members may take turns leading the sessions and may also contribute additional research information if they wish.

Each participant in Great Decisions must purchase a copy of the 2024 essay book, offered at the price of $35, at the downtown library’s checkout desk. Great Decisions is open to any interested adult regardless of political or any other affiliations.

Registration starts Monday, December 11th. Space is limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis as participants pay for the required textbook. The deadline for reserving your spot is Friday, January 5th. For more information, call Lia Adamson at 882-8894 ext. 22 or email her at ladamson@klamathlibrary.org.
