Foreign Film Night: Ahed's Knee

United States

An Israeli filmmaker resists two inevitabilities – the death of his mother and the authoritarianism in his country – in  Ahed’s Knee, screening at the downtown Klamath County Library on Tuesday, November 8th at 5:30 pm.

Y, a stand-in for director Nadav Lapid loosely based on events from Lapid’s own life, finds himself under pressure from two looming realities: the impending death of his ailing mother, and the demands of the Israeli government to downplay Israel’s militarism and nationalism in order to receive funding for his films. As Y’s mental health cracks under the strain, he incites a major scandal by publicly and angrily criticizing Israel’s actions against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Ahed’s Knee highlights the need for art to criticize the society from which it comes, and to resist oppression and propaganda. But Y’s desire to stick to his ethics puts him in grave danger…

The film is unrated, in Hebrew, French and German with subtitles, and runs for 1 hour, 49 minutes.
