Conversations On Death & Dying: Green Burial

United States

Topics around death and dying are often awkward to talk about, but discussing them with your family is the best way to make sure your final wishes are followed through.

The downtown Klamath County Library and special guest host Marci McEnroe, a certified End of Life Doula Specialist, are presenting two events on death and dying:

  • Tuesday, October 19th at 6 pm: Green Burial
Mary Ann Perry, sexton at The Forest Conservation Burial Ground in Ashland, will talk about green burial – a method of interment that does not use embalming, metal, concrete or plastic. Perry is a certified Home Funeral Guide and has been educating the community on after-death care, home funerals and green burials for over 5 years. For more about The Forest Conservation Burial Ground, visit their website at theforestconservationburial.org.
  • Tuesday, November 16th at 6pm: Advance Directives
Advance directives are legal documents that allow you to spell out your decisions about end-of-life care ahead of time, so your wishes can be followed even if you become incapacitated. They can include directions about medical interventions like ventilators or tube feeding, instructions on whether or not to donate your organs, naming a specific person to have power of attorney over your affairs, and more.

McEnroe specializes in end of life planning, holding vigil, as well as educating and empowering those and their loved ones at the end of life. Previous to becoming a doula, she spent more than a decade in the medical profession in the Klamath Basin. She was born and raised in Klamath Basin and serves Klamath Falls and surrounding areas.

No registration for either event is necessary. For more information, stop by the downtown Klamath County Library, call 541-882-8894 or visit klamathlibrary.org.
