The film follows 33-year-old Malcolm Kenyatta, a self-described “poor, gay, Black man from North Philly” as he makes a historic run for the U.S. Senate. Kenyatta has racked up several “firsts” already – he’s the youngest and first openly-LGBTQ person of color to serve in either chamber of Pennsylvania’s state legislature.
