Calling all readers in third through eighth grades! The downtown Klamath County Library is recruiting for our latest Oregon Battle of the Books (OBOB) season.
Participants in two age groups – third through fifth grade and sixth through eighth grade – will read at least one of their age bracket’s Battle of the Books titles and prepare to battle in trivia games about the books. Battle of the Books meetings combine the fun of a book club and the competitive energy of team trivia games! The two teams will meet on the first Tuesday of the month starting in October, with grades 3-5 meeting at 4 pm and grades 6-8 meeting at 5 pm:
- 3rd-5th Grade: Tuesday, October 3rd; Tuesday, November 7th; Tuesday, December 5th, Tuesday, January 9th and Tuesday, February 6th at 4 pm
- 6th-8th Grade: Tuesday, October 3rd; Tuesday, November 7th; Tuesday, December 5th, Tuesday, January 9th and Tuesday, February 6th at 5 pm
Please note that the January meeting is shifted a week later due to the New Year’s holiday. Children in the equivalent grades of homeschool are also welcome to join.
Each meeting for the first half of our season (October through February) will discuss a portion of the OBOB reading list. Team members are not expected to know everything about every OBOB book – Battle of the Books trivia competitions are team events where players collaborate on the correct answer. (Read as many as you like, but we encourage “specializing” in at least one or two titles, so you can pay attention to all the details! You may want to read those books more than once.)
The second half of the season we will meet for trivia scrimmages:
- Practice Rounds:
- 3rd-5th Grade: Tuesday, March 5th and Tuesday, March 19th at 4 pm
- 6th-8th Grade: Tuesday, March 5th and Tuesday, March 19th at 5 pm
- Final Trivia Battle:
- 3rd-5th Grade: Tuesday, April 9th at 4 pm
- 6th-8th Grade: Tuesday, April 9th at 5 pm
- Tiebreaker, if needed:
- 3rd-5th Grade: Tuesday, April 16th at 4 pm
- 6th-8th Grade: Tuesday, April 16th at 5 pm
